Episode 01: Complete step-by-step guide for connecting your Go High Level website to a custom domain, watch it here, read more here!

This is episode 02 of our Go High Level and N8N series. In the previous episode, we connected and verified a domain in Go High Level. Today, we're building and connecting a website to that domain.

Setting Up Your Website in Go High Level

Log into your Go High Level account and navigate to the "Sites" section. Click on "Website" and then "New Website."

You have two options:

  • Start from blank
  • Use templates

For this tutorial, we're using templates. Templates provide a faster path to getting your site live and functional.

Selecting and Customizing a Template

Browse the available templates by category. For this example, we're selecting the "Marketing Agency" category and choosing the "Agency Landing Template."

Before selecting any template, click "Preview" to see how it looks on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices. The templates are already optimized for responsive design.

Once you select your template, the website builder loads with your chosen design.

Understanding the Website Builder Interface

The Go High Level website builder uses a layered structure:

  • Containers (green): The outermost sections
  • Columns (purple): Layout divisions within containers
  • Elements (orange): Individual components like headlines, text, and images

Click on any element to edit its properties. The settings panel appears on the right or left side depending on the element type.

Global vs Local Elements

Elements marked as "Global" appear across all pages. Changes to global elements update automatically throughout your site. Navigation menus are typically global elements.

Learning AI and automation tools like Go HighLevel and n8n are highly valuable, as generative AI could add trillions to the global economy and 87% of employers see AI skills as critical.

Padding and Margins

  • Padding: Space inside an element
  • Margin: Space outside an element, between it and other elements

Adjust these values to control spacing and layout.

Making Your First Edit

To test the system, edit a headline. Click directly on the text element, make your changes, and save. The yellow dot indicates unsaved changes.

For this example, we changed "Transform your business with marketing solutions" to "Transform your business with awesome marketing solutions."

Connecting Your Custom Domain

Your website currently exists on a Go High Level subdomain (something like app.yoursubdomain.com). To connect your custom domain:

  1. Click the "Connect" button in your website settings
  2. Select the domain you added in the previous episode
  3. Click "Save"
  4. Set your page path (we're using /home)
  5. Click "Publish"

Your website is now live on your custom domain. The example site is accessible at ghlplusn8n.com/home.

SEO Configuration

Configure your SEO settings from day one. Navigate to the SEO meta data section in your website settings.

Using AI for SEO Optimization

Use ChatGPT to analyze and improve your site:

Prompt: "Review the site at [your-domain.com] and be critical of the SEO, design, copy, and overall structure to help me improve it. I have a software and training company focused on Go High Level and N8N instruction and use."

Implementing SEO Recommendations

Based on AI feedback, update these elements:

Page Title: "Business Automation Experts — Go High Level & N8N Training"

Meta Description: "Master Go High Level and N8N with expert training and automation strategies for business growth."

Keywords: Add relevant, comma-separated keywords for your industry.

Creating a Social Image

The social image appears when your link is shared on social media. Use Ideogram or similar AI tools to create one:

Prompt: "Create an image with text 'Go High Level + N8N' in a large bright font"

Upload the generated image to your social image settings.

Systematic Content Updates

Work through each page element systematically:

  1. Logo: Replace with your brand logo
  2. Headlines: Update for clarity and relevance
  3. Body text: Customize for your business
  4. Images: Replace with relevant visuals
  5. Call-to-action buttons: Update text and links

Each element follows the same pattern: click, edit, style, save, publish.

Testing Changes

Every change can be tested immediately. Make an edit, save, publish, and refresh your live site to see the results.

When we changed a headline font size from 27 to 87, the change appeared live immediately after publishing.

Technical Structure Overview

The website builder uses cascading structure similar to Russian nesting dolls. Start with the outermost container and work inward to individual elements. Each level has specific properties and styling options.

Key areas to understand:

  • Layers: Shows page structure and popup elements
  • Pages: Lists all pages in your site
  • Tracking Code: For analytics integration
  • Custom CSS: For advanced styling
  • Typography: Font and text settings
  • Popup Settings: Configure popup behavior
